2013
On February 10, 2013, Rev. Dr. Beverly Bingle was ordained by Bishop Joan Houk (Wexford, PA) of The Roman Catholic Women Priests. Rev. Bingle founded Holy Spirit Catholic Community, an inclusive Vatican II Eucharistic Community following her ordination. For more than 10 years, Rev. Bingle led an inclusive community of diverse individuals who hold a common belief system: that all are welcome at our table.
It started with one woman with a vision.
2014
In 2014, Toledo Blade writer Keith Burris wrote about the “woman who picked the harder road” in his article on Rev. Dr. Bingle’s call to the priesthood and forming the Holy Spirit community. Burris (2014) wrote, “I am told Ms. Bingle’s is a breakaway, splinter, heretical church, but this was said of Jesus too. Her church is a school of charity. All you can ask.”
2023
In 2023, Rev. Bingle fought hard to defeat cancer. During her noble battle, she became unable to lead in the same way all were accustom. Thus, she called upon a few regular members and ministers of the church community to work together & serve HSCC in new capacities prior to her passing.
Reverend Bingle had a fervent wish that Holy Spirit Catholic Community would not only continue beyond her time with us, but to grow and flourish as we live out her legacy of inclusivity and justice and continue serving those in our community and beyond. In her honor and memory, members of the Holy Spirit Catholic Community are working together to ensure the church’s continued functioning and active presence in our community.
